Microdermabrasion

Resurfaces the skin by removing dead and damaged cells
with a jet of fine aluminum oxide micro crystals propelled across and then vacuumed
of the skin. This is a safe ,pain-free means of polishing and cleaning the skin,
resulting in improved texture and consistency of the skin with each treatment.
What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrsion provides the patient with a non-invasive and non-surgical procedure with which the skin can safely be abraded in a safe and controlled manner.
Microdermabrasion is indicated for the following conditions:
- Wrinkles
- Fine Lines
- Hyperpigmentation
- Aging Skin
- Oily Skin
- Dry Skin
- Blemishes
Microdermabrasion exfoliates the skin, unplugs pores, improves the texture and appearance of leathery skin, evens skin tone and reduces pore size.
How does the microdermabrasion work?
When the microdermabrasion machine is turned on and its handpiece is against
the patient's skin forming a seal a vacuum is created and high medical grade
aluminum oxide (Al2O3) crystals are propelled against the skin resulting in
the skin's abrasion. The skin debris and the microcrystals are then sucked into
a waste container.
The aluminum oxide crystals impact the skin at very high speeds, the impact
stimulates the skins blood flow which in turn increases oxygenation which encourages
the regeneration of collagen and the growth of new cells. The result is skin
that looks fresh and healthy.
How Long Does a Treatment Typically Take?
Most microdermabrasion sessions are 10-30min. long. Ultimately, the length
of the treatment will depend on the size of the treatment area: the greater
the size of the treatment area the greater the amount of time required to perform
the procedure.
How Many Sessions Are Required?
The doctor will assess your skin before this or any procedure is performed.
The number of treatments required will vary from individual to individual. Around
six treatments work well for most people. Typically if a patient is to have
six microdermabrasion sessions then the first three sessions would be spaced
one week apart and the next three would be two weeks apart. If microdermabrasion
is being used to treat scars resulting from either injury or surgery e.g. acne
scars or post-operative scars then a more aggressive treatment course may be
called for. The treatment course may consist of two groups of six sessions:
the first six sessions might be spaced a week apart and the second six sessions
might be spaced two weeks apart with a month between the conclusion of the first
six sessions and the commencement of the next six sessions.
What should I expect after a Micodermabrasion Session?
After a microdermabrasion treatment you should expect you skin to be soft and
pink. If skin was treated in a more aggressive manner then it may be red for
up to 24 hours post-treatment. After the treatment you should minimize sun exposure
and wear a sunscreen that is at least SPF 30. It is best not to wear makeup
immediately after this procedure; however, it can be worn after first applying
a non-irritating moisturizer. You can resume your normal activities as soon
as the treatment has been completed. The fact that a microdermabrasion session
can fit seamlessly into virtually anyone's day has resulted in microdermabrasion
being dubbed "The Lunchtime Peel" by Vogue and Elle.
