What is Cymetra?

Cymetra is a dermal implant composed of micronized Alloderm tissue. This cosmetic procedure provides the patient with real tissue replacement.

How Does Cymetra Work?

Cymetra rejuvenates the skin by providing soft tissue replacement and is also used in lip augmentation. Cymetra can be used to help improve the appearance of skin defects due to wrinkling and creasing; for example, by smoothing nasolabial folds and can also be used to improve the look of depressed scars that may have resulted from injury, surgery or disease i.e acne.

As we get older, time, disease and injury cause our epidermis to deteriorate. As our collagen and elastin become depleted our skin is no longer supported the way that it used to be and the result is that skin that sags and skin that is wrinkled - In short, skin that looks old.

Thankfully, there are cosmetic treatment options to restore the youthful look of the skin. Cymetra can be used alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures such as Nlite, Botox Cosmetic and Obagi Blue Peel. In addition to cosmetic procedures, healthy lifestyle habits such as healthy eating, exercising regularly, minimizing sun exposure and not smoking help to maintain the youthful appearance of the skin.

Cymetra contains no human cells yet retains the collagen and elastin patterns that are found in normal skin. Cymetra’s acellular matrix provides a scaffolding for the patient’s own skin cells; preserved proteoglycans and proteins encourage the patient’s own cells to revascularize and repopulate the matrix with cells. The micronized Alloderm tissue contains blood vessel channels that allow for the revascularization of this dermal matrix.

Cymetra is a minimally invasive procedure; it is applied with a needle concurrently with pain medication to maximize the comfort of the patient. Although inflammation and soft tissue rejection are sometimes associated with bovine collagen they are not associated with Cymetra. There is a minimum risk of tissue rejection or allergic reaction to Cymetra as it is decellularized.

Cymetra is real tissue replacement thus it feels and ages like natural tissue. Therefore, the durability of Cymetra’s results will depend on the individual patient.
